SONGBIRD, SONGBIRD, LET DOWN YOUR HAIR

It started with a girl alone in her tower. Elizabeth remembers very little of her childhood, a young man with brown hairs and the letters AD marked upon his hand. How he would hold her, read her books and tell her of the safety of their secret little haven.

One day, he was gone. Elizabeth never saw him again or understood who that man was – he haunted her dreams, even as she began to grow from a little girl into a beautiful, smart young woman. Elizabeth would find a basket every morning hoisted up to the top of her tower, provided daily with fruits and vegetables, gifted with books and paints and letters from her supposed father who promised to keep her safe. All for his Songbird. As Elizabeth grew, as did her hair. Unruly, gorgeous black waves cascaded to the floor and beyond – and it was up to her to tend to it. Alone most of her life with only a curious memory and a hazy face, it was not until one day a man with stark white hair called out to her – Songbird, Songbird, let down your hair!.

With no other choice, she allowed the stranger to climb her hair into her tower – to find the man with white hair the man from her dreams. Her father, aged with time and regret.
